As others have done (quite often more eloquently), I wanted to share some takeaways from a great week at Digital Built Environment Institute in Dallas last week. Long story short: I am excited to join everyone again next year.
Always good to spend time with my CADD cohorts; this time it was Michael Massey and Christopher Lindo – only one of us was prepared with actual cowboy gear. And MAN, our photo stayed up during the gala for a very long time.
The first (of, I hope, many) “Jason” sub-conference was outstanding.
Seeing your tip make it to the final session never gets old.
Finally, exclusively through anecdotal and non-scientific evidence, I was excited to see a trend with many of the presenters this year. Over the last decade or so, I have been fortunate to speak at many events and have come to know and be friends with many others that I see “on the circuit.” To be frank, many of us have already or are about to get our invitation letter to the AARP (or whatever the Canadian equivalent is), and while these outstanding presenters constantly amaze me with new tips and insights, I was very happy to see a large number of younger and first-time presenters this year.
I don’t know if the team at DBEI made an effort to do this, but giving exposure and a platform to the next round of digital technology experts makes all of us smarter and helps expand our perspectives. Kudos to the nervous first-timers (if you are like me, your nerves will never 100% go away). I sat in many of your sessions and cannot wait to see what you think up for next year.
I came home inspired, oddly refreshed (that Dallas humidity was like a supernatural entity), and full of ideas. I call that a win.
