Because they don't teach you this in school…

I think I’m still under the time limit for posting my AU2023 thoughts and not having too many eyebrows raised. It was a great (exhausting) and informative (worn out) 3 days that gave me a handful of action items and things to come back to the laptop and kick around.

And it comes down to data and new ways to get to that data. I know there is a lot of talk about AI, and while I am excited about its future, what is in the front part of my brain… the part that I need to sit down and play with… is the new ways to connect to my data in the cloud right now.

☁ A casual “in the hall” chat with Mike Engel pointed me to the new beta for the AEC Data Model APIs. I signed up as soon as I got back. I think the potential here is immense. We have always talked about the importance of the data in the Revit model, and now, being able to granularly peel it out straight from my model in the cloud could be a game changer.

📊 I attended a great session by BENJAMIN DOTY and Alex Woodhouse from LMN about their work on new ways to share design intent with others. The underlay here is that they were using Data Exchange and PowerBI to update content for the contractors and fabricators easily. Definitely a close cousin to the AEC Data Model, but I really enjoyed how they used it to start a new conversation about making project delivery easier.

🏗 For me, leveraging data that is already being created is huge and I am excited to test this out and see where the future is. It, as always, speaks to the need for GOOD and CONSISTENT data, but now there’s another reason to do it.

👍 It was, as always, great to hang with some of my CADD Microsystems, An ARKANCE Company teammates, run into some Autodesk team members that I only see over Teams and Zoom, and catch up with folks I only run into at other conferences.

🤩 And of course, I couldn’t get through an AU 2023 post without mentioning Ryan Reynolds. I was in the crowd. WAY in the back. But, I wrote down a quote that resonated with me that I know I will look back on when I need a reminder:
“Anytime you use empathy, great things will happen.”

🌕 I liked having a window that overlooked the Sphere.

🦃 I am almost recovered, just in time for a nice holiday break, but I hope to have some of the messy testing with the new API and Data Exchanges to share soon.
