“It looks like you’re about to pontificate. Would you like help?”
Sometimes I really enjoy living in the future.
In our internal Teams chat, one of my coworkers knowing my love of Lego and fascination with eccentric technology, pointed out a recent entry to the Lego Ideas page.
This Clippy design sang to so many parts of me. Immediately, I created an account and voted for this shot of so many kinds of nostalgia.
Looking over the submission, it occurred to me that this wasn’t a very complicated design. By the end of the evening, I had gone into Bricklink’s Studio and made a digital version, with some minor tweaks. I had my shopping list.
Using Studio’s integration with Bricklink’s marketplace, I ordered all the necessary parts within 10 minutes.
After a few days, everything showed up. Back in Studio, I looked at the model to remind myself how this goes together. And now Lego Clippy proudly sits on my office shelf… bringing delight to coworkers and confusion to my kids.
If it becomes an official set, I will still 100% buy it. And if you are an Ideas subscriber, please vote for Clippy over there.
This isn’t an endorsement or ad for any of these services… it’s just a reminder that this would have been impossible or at least significantly more difficult several years ago.
I do love living in the future.
