You often hear people say, “Don’t come to me with a problem unless you have a solution.”
Well, that’s not right. Not if it’s my job to fix stuff.
Don’t worry about the fix. Sometimes it’s completely fine to just identify what is wrong.
Is it helpful if you know the fix or a possible fix? Sure. But it shouldn’t be necessary.
And what annoys me most about the whole “bring me a solution” mentality is that it’s lazy. It puts the work on the other person. Let’s figure it out and fix it together.
Now, when someone comes to me and tells me they don’t like something, you need more information to back that up.
Objective vs subjective.
We can agree on and fix problems that are objective. But if something is subjective, we may not even agree if it’s a problem or not.
And that is impossible to fix.
